Dr. Walden Says More Women Should Get Into Plastic Surgery

Austin, Texas aesthetic plastic surgeon Dr. Jennifer Walden was recently named one of Texas’ Super Doctors by a group of her peers. A down home and personable person at heart, Dr. Jennifer Walden pulled up stakes a few years back when her twin boys were mere babies to come back to her Texas roots. While she left behind a thriving business and many good friends, she thought it was the best decision she could make for her family.

Dr. Walden graduated from high school in Austin and went on to graduate from the University of Texas with a degree in Biology. After being waitlisted, she finally entered the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. After an externship in Miami, she landed in Manhattan. She continued to hone her skills under her mentor Dr. Sherill Aston. Today, she is considered among the best aesthetic plastic surgeons in the world.

As an aesthetic plastic surgeon, Dr. Walden performs a number of procedures including breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, vaginal rejuvenation, tummy tuck, liposuction and even Botox injections. The procedures can run anywhere from $5,000 to $12,000.

Dr. Walden admits she’s a rarity in the plastic surgery field. Actually, the field is dominated by men. Of the 8,100 board certified plastic surgeons in the U.S. less than 200 are women. And only 12 are in Texas. That’s a pretty daunting figure for women who want to go into plastic surgery.

According to Dr. Walden, the years of training needed to become a board certified plastic surgeon may be a turn off for some females. In most cases, you will have to delay starting a family because you have 5 more years of post medical school training and 1-2 year internship. Besides, the culture of plastic surgery is only beginning to warm up to women. “We still have a long way to go, be we’re getting there.”
